Police Hunt Man After Sexual Assault Attempt in Portsmouth Alleyway
Police are urgently appealing for witnesses following a disturbing sexual assault attempt in Portsmouth on Sunday evening, November 20.
Woman Attacked While Walking Home
At around 5.45pm, a 19-year-old woman was walking through the alley linking Wellington Street to Aldwell Street, heading towards Somers Road. Halfway down, a man suddenly approached her, touched her inappropriately over her clothes, and tried to pull her to the ground.
Thankfully, a brave second woman witnessed the attack and stepped in. The attacker then fled towards Guildhall Square, possibly heading into Aldwell Street, Lower Forbury Road, River Street, or Sedgley Close.
The victim was unharmed and is receiving support from authorities.
Suspect Description
- White male, aged 40s-50s
- Overweight, larger build
- About 5ft 8in tall
- Short grey hair, slightly balding
- Grey stubble on face
- Wearing a grey hoodie with hood up

Police are following leads but now need the public’s help. If you were nearby at the time, saw the attack, or recognise the man described, contact police immediately.
