A viral message has been buzzing in local WhatsApp and social media circles, claiming police threatened to fine a woman breastfeeding in a Hove park. But cops have quickly slammed the allegations as fake news.
Bodycam Footage Clears Officers
Police reviewed body-worn camera footage from the incident and say there’s no truth to the breastfeeding fine claim. “At no point was the fact she was breastfeeding part of the officers’ reason to ask her to leave,” a spokesperson confirmed.
Picnic Interrupted Over Covid Rules
The woman and a companion were enjoying a picnic when officers first approached them, reminding them to follow national Covid-19 guidance to stay home and protect the NHS.
Officers returned over ten minutes later and issued the same advice. The pair then left the park voluntarily, with no fines or threats involved.
