Tragic end to Nicola Bulley search – body found in River Wyre

Mother of two confirmed dead after vanishing three weeks ago

The lifeless body pulled from the River Wyre in Lancashire yesterday has been confirmed as 45-year-old Nicola Bulley. The mother of two disappeared over three weeks ago after dropping her daughters off at school and setting off for a walk with her dog, Willow.

Police confirm identity and offer condolences

At a press briefing, Lancashire police said: “Sadly, we are now able to confirm that yesterday we recovered Nicola Bulley from the River Wyre.” They added that Nicola’s family had been informed and were devastated, with thoughts extended to her loved ones and the wider St Michael’s community.

Officers praised the public for their support during the “huge and emotional” investigation. “This is not the outcome anyone wanted,” they said, “but we hope it brings some answers to Nicola’s family.” The case has now been handed to HM Coroner.

The family’s heart-wrenching statement

Speaking through family liaison officers, Nicola’s relatives said:

“Our Family Liaison officers have had to confirm our worst fears today. We will never be able to comprehend what Nikki went through in her last moments and that will never leave us.

We will never forget Nikki – she was the centre of our world, the one who made our lives special. Nothing will cast a shadow over that.

Our girls will get the support they need from those who love them most.”

“It saddens us that one day we may have to explain to our children how the press and public wrongly accused their dad, misquoted and vilified family and friends. This is absolutely appalling and must never happen again.”

“Last night, despite asking for privacy, Sky News and ITV contacted us directly and ran stories about us for their own gain. This is shameful. Leave us alone now.”

“To those who privately helped and supported us – thank you. The community spirit in St Michael’s has been heart-warming. To others with missing loved ones, keep hope alive.”

“Finally, Nikki, you are no longer missing, you have been found, and can now rest. We love you, always have and always will. We’ll take it from here xx”
