Boxing Day Tragedy: Nightclub Stabbing Claims Life of 23-Year-Old

Cody Fisher, 23, was fatally stabbed just before midnight on Boxing Day at The Crane nightclub on Adderley Street, Digbeth, Birmingham. Police say Cody was out with friends when a group approached him on the dancefloor and attacked.

Despite desperate efforts by emergency responders, Cody died around 30 minutes after police arrived at the scene.

Security Failures Spark Fury Amid Moody Crowd

Partygoers slammed The Crane’s security checks as “useless” and “a disaster waiting to happen.” Sydnee Power, 23, from Birmingham, described the tense atmosphere. “There were groups of lads everywhere, looking moody and ready to cause trouble. It felt wrong the moment we walked in.”

An 18-year-old from Wolverhampton added that security barely searched him, despite his cargo pants being full of pockets. “They just followed my body outline and waved us through. Anything could have been brought in.”

Club Cancels New Year’s Eve Event, Offers Refunds

In the wake of the stabbing, The Crane has cancelled its New Year’s Eve party. The venue issued a heartfelt statement:

“We are deeply shocked and saddened by the loss of a man at our Boxing Day event. Our hearts go out to Cody, his family, and friends. We’re working closely with West Midlands Police and urge anyone with information to come forward.

All ticket holders for the New Year’s Eve event will be contacted and receive refunds.

Police Call for Witnesses as Investigation Continues

Detective Inspector Michelle Thurgood, leading the investigation, urged anyone who attended the club to step forward. “We believe the victim was approached by a group before the stabbing. We’ve spoken to some attendees but need to hear from anyone who witnessed or filmed the incident.”

The victim’s family has been informed and is receiving specialist support.

The nightclub remains closed as police gather evidence, with patrols set to reassure local residents in the coming days.
