Desperate Hunt Underway for Missing Essex Mum and Two Babies
The Met Police have launched a frantic search for Jamie-Leigh Kelly, a 31-year-old Essex mother, and her two young children who vanished last Tuesday, September 19. The toddlers – aged three and under one month old – were snatched from a Family Assessment Centre in north-west London against staff orders, sparking urgent safety fears.
Drama at Family Centre: Mum Flees in Blue Ford Fiesta
At around 7:40pm, Jamie-Leigh defied centre staff, bundled her children into a blue Ford Fiesta, and sped off. Police have confirmed the driver is a woman, but her identity and the vehicle’s whereabouts remain unknown. The missing children’s welfare is now the top priority.
Who is Jamie-Leigh Kelly?
- White female
- Green eyes
- Slim build
- 5ft 4ins tall
- Last seen wearing all-white: jumper or long-sleeved top, jogging trousers, and trainers
The newborn baby, less than a month old, may need urgent medical attention. Detective Superintendent Lewis Basford of the Met’s Public Protection Unit made a heartfelt public plea:
“We know you have no intention for the children to come to harm, so we are asking you to please pick up the phone and have a conversation with us so we can meet with you. The baby may need medical care as he is new-born, so please put him first and contact us.”
Police Action and Arrest Update
The Met is working closely with Essex Police and local councils in Thurrock and Havering, carrying out extensive inquiries. A man in his 50s was arrested on September 20 in Essex, suspected of child abduction and conspiracy to kidnap. He remains in custody. Police say there’s no current evidence the children have been harmed.
An image of the blue Ford Fiesta linked to the case has been released. Anyone who spots the vehicle or has any information – especially in Essex or London – is urged to call the Met Police incident room on 020 7175 0793 or dial 999 for urgent sightings.
