Over 20 Arrests in Major Crime Crackdown Across South East London

The Met Police have swooped across Greenwich, Lewisham, and Bexley, hauling in more than 20 suspects in a hefty crackdown on local crime hotspots. The arrests cover a grab bag of offences including drink driving, robbery, sexual crimes, criminal damage, vehicle theft, and weapon possession. Alongside, officers slapped down several community protection warnings for shoplifting and other minor offences.

New Recruits Take to the Streets with Grit and Guts

This high-profile operation wasn’t just a routine raid. It put fresh faces from the Police Now programme — a tough two-year graduate training scheme — right on the front line. These rookie coppers teamed up with seasoned Met officers to patrol the streets, chat with locals, and boost community safety.

“Whilst patrolling the high street, we were thrilled that so many members of the public engaged with us and came to say hello,” said PC Victoria Ackford, a new recruit. “People were open and honest with us. Their local insight was invaluable and helped us understand the area better.”

Ackford stressed how vital trust-building is to cracking down on crime. “We’re excited to move into neighbourhood policing, keeping the public safe and holding offenders to account.”

Festive Season Patrols Deliver Reassurance

The operation took place during the busy festive period, when London streets bustle and law enforcement faces extra challenges. PC Ackford added, “We hope our presence was appreciated. It’s an honour to serve during our Police Now training. Wishing everyone a happy festive season, and we look forward to strengthening bonds across London.”

Community Cheers Police, Calls for Vigilance

Local leaders and residents have welcomed the crackdown, praising the Met’s visible policing for making streets safer. This comes as part of a wider push to boost neighbourhood policing across south east London.

The Met Police urge locals to stay sharp this holiday season and report any suspicious activity to keep their communities protected.
