Tragedy in Kingston: 22-Year-Old Malik Chattun Murdered in Stabbing
Detectives have named the victim of a brutal Kingston murder as 22-year-old Malik Chattun from Surbiton. Police rushed to Cambridge Gardens at 2:16am on Sunday, 5 August after the London Ambulance Service reported a stabbing.
Officers found Malik with stab wounds. Despite desperate CPR from bystanders and police before paramedics arrived, he was declared dead at the scene just after 3am.
Two Men and Woman Arrested
Malik’s next of kin have been informed. A post-mortem at Kingston Mortuary confirmed a single stab wound as the cause of death.
In the early hours of Monday, two 19-year-old men were held on suspicion of murder. A 20-year-old woman was also arrested, accused of assisting an offender. All three remain in police custody at a south London station.
Police Launch Major Investigation
A homicide incident room is now open under the leadership of Detective Chief Inspector Richard Vandenbergh. He revealed Malik may have been involved in an altercation with several people before the fatal attack.
“We need anyone who witnessed the incident, no matter how small their part, to come forward. Even if you weren’t directly involved, your information could be crucial,” said DCI Vandenbergh.
Malik’s family is grieving and has asked for privacy during this heartbreaking time.
Community Safety and Call for Witnesses
Chief Superintendent Sally Benatar, commander of South West Borough Command Unit, assured the public: “Local officers are patrolling the area to provide reassurance. We’re working closely with Kingston Council and community partners to tackle concerns and keep residents safe.”
