Cash, Cannabis and Fake Gun Seized in Sutton-in-Ashfield Taxi Stop
Police pounced on a taxi in Sutton-in-Ashfield this morning, uncovering illegal drugs, a pellet gun, and a stash of cash. The swoop happened just before 10am on Leamington Drive, as officers from the Ashfield Operation Reacher team pulled the vehicle over.
Passenger nabbed with cannabis and imitation weapon
The passenger was caught red-handed with a small amount of cannabis and was searched under the Misuse of Drugs Act. That search uncovered a large sum of cash and a gas-powered pellet gun.
A 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possessing a class B drug and an imitation firearm. He remains in police custody pending further enquiries.
Cash secured, fake gun sent for probe
Officers have taken the cash into secure police storage until the suspect can prove it came from legal sources. Meanwhile, the pellet gun will undergo further investigation to determine its risks.
“Weapons of this nature may not be genuine firearms, but they can still cause significant injury, alarm and distress,” said PC Jade Massey of Nottinghamshire Police. “I’m pleased we’ve taken this device off the streets and hope this stop warns others about the consequences of carrying such items.”
This latest bust highlights police’s ongoing crackdown on fake weapons and drug offences in the region.
