Both ends of Welch Road were cordoned off with tape while officers kept watch. Armed cops and a police dog attended the tense incident. Two large knives were recovered from the scene, and a man was detained.
Air Ambulance Touches Down Amid Panic
Emergency services raced in, dispatching both a land ambulance and an air ambulance—the latter landing at nearby Brockhurst Primary School. The injured man was rushed to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham, where he remains in stable condition.
Local Residents Speak Out: “He Stabbed Himself”
Resident Lorraine Aldfred, who’s lived on the road for 10 years, dismissed online rumours: “This is not what happened. The man stabbed himself — he needs mental help. Hopefully he will get it now.”
Another witness, who wished to remain anonymous, said: “We saw police with a taser drawn, but it wasn’t fired. It was pretty scary because we thought it was a knife attack.”
Police Confirm Self-Inflicted Injuries
Authorities have confirmed the stabbing was self-inflicted. The investigation is ongoing, with a focus on mental health support for the man involved.
