Wrong-Way Driver Brought Down After Police Crash on M20
A motorway nightmare unfolded on Friday evening when a driver blasted the wrong way down the M20 towards London. Concerned motorists rang police alerting them to a vehicle speeding westbound on the eastbound carriageway.
Police Use Tactical Contact to Stop Rogue Motorist
kent/" title="Kent">Kent Police’s Road Policing Unit quickly attempted to slow the errant driver, but the vehicle charged straight at officers. In a dramatic move, police made “tactical contact” to safely bring the car to a halt. Astonishingly, no one was injured during the collision – although the police car was damaged.
“The important thing is that no one was hurt, and it took a team effort to safely end this incident. Thank you to everyone who called to alert us to this vehicle,” the force said on Twitter.
Licence Revoked After Bizarre Incident
Following the drama, Kent Police confirmed they had contacted the DVLA to revoke the driver’s licence. The force received praise on social media, including from one woman whose daughter was nearly hit by the wrong-way driver.
“The driver came towards my daughter who was absolutely terrified the car was going to hit someone,” she wrote.
Wrong-Way Driving: A Dangerous Tradition on Kent’s Motorways
This is far from the first time cars have plunged into chaos on the M20 and nearby M25. Instances of wrong-way driving have been documented for years. In 2016, a social media post described a near head-on collision on the M25. A stolen vehicle once rammed a police car before tearing down the M20 the wrong way, leading to multiple charges including dangerous driving and attempted GBH.
Witnesses have recounted terrifying experiences with high-speed cars hurtling toward them on the wrong side of the road, some reaching speeds of 100mph.
Kent Police remain vigilant and urge any motorists spotting wrong-way drivers to report them immediately. It’s a lurking danger that could cost lives if not stopped in time.
