Met Police Crack Down on Large Gatherings This Weekend
Despite some government updates, Health Protection Regulations still ban large groups and big gatherings. The Met is gearing up to enforce these rules over the weekend.
Chief Superintendent Urges Public to Stick to the Rules
Chief Superintendent Karen Findlay, the Met’s Silver Commander for Covid-19 response, praised the public’s efforts so far but warned the weekend won’t be any different. She said:
“I want to thank the public for their support in following Government guidelines. As we approach the weekend, please continue to follow the rules. While some guidance has changed, restrictions remain firmly in place.”
What’s Allowed and What’s Not This Weekend?
- People can go outside alone, with their household, or with one other person from a different household to enjoy open spaces and boost mental and physical wellbeing.
- But don’t expect to kick a football with a big group or attend outdoor concerts, parties, protests, marches, or assemblies—they’re all still banned.
Police Ready to Patrol and Enforce
Officers, backed by the Mounted Branch and Special Constables, will be out in force this weekend. They’ll engage with the public, explain the rules, and encourage compliance.
In case of any spontaneous or planned mass gatherings, police will step in to reduce health risks, prioritising engagement over enforcement.
“Most Londoners are following the guidance, but where needed, we won’t hesitate to enforce the law. Our priority is keeping everyone safe,”
said Findlay.
