Busted! Kent Police and Councils Crack Down on Illegal Waste Dumpers
30+ Vehicles Stopped in Major Waste Crime Sweep
Kent Police’s Rural Taskforce joined forces with Dartford and Gravesham Councils on July 13, 2022, to tackle the growing problem of illegal waste transport and fly-tipping in north-west Kent. Over 30 vehicles were stopped and checked, targeting those flouting the law on waste disposal.
Fines and Seizures Send Warning to Fly-Tippers
- Two vans carrying scrap metal were caught in Dartford’s Bob Dunn Way and Gravesend’s Ladywood Road.
- Both drivers slapped with £300 fines for lacking valid waste transport licences.
- One uninsured vehicle seized on the spot.
- Another driver reported for driving without road tax.
Strong Message from Authorities: No More Fly-Tipping
Sergeant Darren Walshaw hit out at the dangers fly-tipping poses to communities. “Fly-tipping blights communities and, in some cases, poses a significant health risk to the public,” he said. “We will keep working with partners to show this illegal activity won’t be tolerated.”
He warned, “Make sure anyone you hire to remove waste has a valid licence.”
Councils Pledge Relentless Crackdown
Gravesham Council’s Cllr Shane Mochrie-Cox didn’t hold back: “Fly-tippers don’t know where or when we’ll strike next. We will keep hitting hard, seizing vehicles and prosecuting offenders.”
Dartford Council Leader Jeremy Kite added, “Just one fly-tipper can cause havoc for residents. Inspecting over 30 vehicles in a day sends a clear message.”
This joint operation proves councils and Kent Police are united in their fight against environmental crime, protecting communities and public health.
