Shock as Schoolboy Caught With BB Gun at Isle of Wight Primary
A Year 6 pupil at Broadlea Primary School in Lake, Isle of Wight, was found carrying a BB gun on school grounds, sparking concern among parents and staff.
Swift Action Taken by School
Headteacher Sharon Freeley confirmed in a letter to parents that an “inappropriate item” was discovered on Tuesday when the boy brought the BB gun into school. The replica weapon could easily be mistaken for a real firearm.
“The incident was handled swiftly and appropriately to keep all pupils safe,” Freeley wrote.
Injuries Reported, But Details Scarce
Reports say a 10-year-old child was hurt during the event, though the school has refused to comment further. The Isle of Wight Council spokesperson said:
“An event occurred on 4th June 2019 involving a child bringing an inappropriate item into Broadlea school. The matter was dealt with swiftly and in line with school behaviour policies and advice from outside agencies.”
The council stressed they cannot release more details to protect those involved and to allow a sensitive investigation.
Parents Reassured Over Ongoing Safety
Despite the unsettling discovery, the school insists it remains a safe environment for all pupils. Letters have been sent home to reassure parents that safety measures are in place and the incident is being taken seriously.
