Fake ‘Abandoned Baby’ Post Sparks Outrage Across UK Social Media
A disturbing photo of a distressed baby in a carrier appeared overnight in Facebook groups nationwide. The post pleaded: “Baby dumped at our house gate. I can’t find her parents and my neighbours have no idea how she got here, please help me find her parents.”
The post quickly went viral, spreading beyond Facebook to Instagram and other platforms. But eagle-eyed social media users soon spotted a red flag—the same photo and text were being recycled across multiple groups.
Scam Alert: Comments Disabled and Dodgy Profiles
The poster tried to dodge detection by disabling comments and posting from a business profile. But users found sneaky ways to leave messages on the page, exposing it as a scam.
“Scam page with a baby picture and the claim that she was dumped on their doorstep. I’m requesting money. Report and delete.”
Many believe the images were stolen. One furious user wrote: “Actually disgusting, whoever is behind this account deserves to go to prison. If anyone can find the real owner of this photo to warn them their child’s image is used in some sick and twisted lies, please do so!”
Public Warned: Don’t Fall for Sick Baby Photo Scams
Others warned the fake profile is just a front. “If you see this person IRL, you can bet it’s not their real name and they have no clue about the photo,” one user said. “Instead of complaining, share this to raise awareness these are scams and the people in the pictures aren’t involved.”
Many called those behind the scam “horrible” and “sick and twisted.”
Met Police Confirm No Truth to Abandoned Baby Claims
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: “We are aware of a social media message circulating about a child being abandoned at a house in Rainham. We conducted several inquiries and found no evidence to support this being true. Please keep in mind the possibility of scams and fraud.”
Experts urge users to stay vigilant and report suspicious posts immediately. Always verify before sharing shocking posts online.
