Tragic Double Blow: Southampton Twin Nurses Die Days Apart from Covid
Heartbreak has struck Southampton after twin sisters Katy and Emma Davis died within three days of each other, both testing positive for Covid-19.
Nurses Through and Through
Katy Davis, 37, a dedicated nurse, passed away at Southampton General Hospital on Tuesday. Just days later, her identical twin Emma, also a former nurse, died in the same hospital early Friday.
A Family’s Devastating Loss
“They always said they had come into the world together and would go out together as well,” said their sister Zoe. “There are no words to describe how special they were.”
Zoe revealed the sisters dreamed of helping others from a young age. “All they ever wanted to do was to help other people. Ever since they were young… they’d pretend they were doctors and nurses caring for their dolls.”
She added, “They gave their everything to all the patients they looked after. They were exceptional. It doesn’t feel like any of this is real.”
Honouring Heroes Lost
Both sisters had underlying health conditions and had been unwell for some time. In a moving tribute, hospital staff held a “Clap for Katy” outside the main entrance on Thursday night – mere hours before Emma’s death was announced.
The Nursing Times reports that 50 British nursing staff have died during the pandemic, highlighting the heavy toll among frontline heroes.
