Stolen Car Crash Sparks Chaos in Croydon – Man Rushed to Major Trauma Centre
A stolen car careered out of control in Croydon early Friday, smashing into another vehicle after refusing to stop for police. The high-speed drama unfolded just before 6am, triggering a huge emergency response and leaving one man seriously hurt.
Police Chase Ends in Collision on Whitehorse Road
At around 5:50am, officers on patrol spotted a stolen vehicle tearing along Whitehorse Road. They tried to pull it over, but the driver ignored their commands and crashed into another car at the junction of Devonshire Road.
Emergency Crews Rush to Scene
The London Ambulance Service, London Fire Brigade, and Metropolitan Police all scrambled to the crash.
“We were called at 6.01am to a road traffic collision on Whitehorse Road, Croydon,” a London Ambulance spokesperson said. “We sent an ambulance crew, an advanced paramedic, a fast response car, and an incident response officer. A man was treated at the scene, then rushed to a major trauma centre as a priority.”
The 38-year-old driver of the stolen car was hospitalised but his condition is not life-threatening or life-changing. The other driver escaped without injuries.
Suspect Held on Theft and Driving Charges
The man has been arrested on suspicion of stealing the vehicle and other driving offences. He remains in police custody as investigations continue.
Investigation Continues Amid Morning Traffic Chaos
Police have yet to explain how the car was stolen. The incident caused disruption for commuters during the busy morning rush in Croydon.
