Tribute to Wayne Smith: Beloved Son Killed in Horrific Stabbing
Wayne Smith, 37, from Rickyard, Guildford, has died after being stabbed in a violent attack. The “bubbly, boisterous man with a radiant smile” was rushed to hospital in critical condition on 15 October but tragically passed away twelve days later on 27 October.
Murder Investigation Underway
Surrey and Sussex’s Major Crime Team has launched a full murder inquiry. A 23-year-old man, a 30-year-old man, and a 16-year-old boy from Aldershot have all been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. The 16-year-old was re-arrested on suspicion of murder. All three remain on bail as investigations continue.
Family Pay Emotional Tribute
“No words can explain how much we loved Wayne, how much we will miss him and the huge hole left in our lives,” said Wayne’s father. “He was a fun and loving family man, very close to me, his younger brother, and his nephews. Although not outwardly cuddly, he was a big softie at heart and never missed telling me he loved me each night.”
Wayne had recently passed his digger driver test and was excited about the future with his girlfriend, planning holidays and new experiences. “It is devastating this was taken from him,” his father added.
His mother said: “Our beautiful boy has been taken from us too soon. No parent should endure this pain and heartbreak. Wayne was a protective big brother who was loved and admired by his younger siblings.”
Family and friends have been deeply touched by the outpouring of support from the local community. Specially trained officers are assisting the family during this difficult time.
Detectives Urge Witnesses to Come Forward
Senior Investigating Officer Detective Inspector Gareth Hicks said: “Our thoughts are with Wayne’s loved ones. We are determined to bring those responsible to justice.”
He appealed to anyone near The Moors, Tongham, by the A331 underpass around 9pm on 15 October to come forward. “You may have vital information for our investigation.”
