Loud Bang Sparks Panic Across North London

Residents in North London were left startled this evening (Monday, November 28) after hearing a massive “explosion” followed by smoke rising over the skyline. The noise was mostly reported on Belfast Road, Hackney, with Stoke Newington bearing the brunt of the disturbance. People in Camden and Stratford also claimed to hear the booming sound.

No Sign of Explosion Found by Emergency Services

Fire crews and police rushed to the scene, spending over half an hour scouring the area for any evidence of an explosion – but came up empty-handed. A Met Police spokesperson said:

“This evening, there have been several calls about loud bangs in the Stoke Newington neighbourhood. Significant occurrences have not been reported to us. Thunder and lightning seem to be what made the noise.”

The London Fire Brigade confirmed no fires were found after an “extensive search” of Belfast Road and surrounding areas.

Thunderstorm Likely Culprit Behind the Ruckus

According to LightningMaps.org, a series of lightning strikes hit several North London districts including Camden, Stoke Newington, Hampstead, and Stamford Hill around the time of the loud bang.

So, it seems the mysterious boom was just Mother Nature putting on a thunderous display — not an explosion!
