Pensioner Cancer Patient Left Bruised After Thugs Attack Over Scooter Theft
79-Year-Old Ida Fights Off Scooter Thieves
Brave pensioner and cancer sufferer Ida Brown was left battered after two thugs tried to steal her mobility scooter in a dawn raid. The 79-year-old, who lives alone in Dunston, was woken just after 5:30am when her cat Henry VIII was disturbed by noise at the back door.
Ida went to check and caught two young men skulking outside. When she opened the door, they shoved her into the wall and fled, leaving her with a painful knee injury and nasty bruises on her face and eyes.
Scared but Unbroken
Despite the attack, Ida managed to stop the theft. She told us: “They didn’t manage to steal my scooter but I can just remember them running away and shouting ‘we’ll be back.’”
Fighting leukaemia and recovering from a recent pacemaker operation, Ida relies heavily on her mobility scooter to get around, making the attack even more devastating.
“My knee is really painful and I couldn’t open my eye for a few days afterwards. I can’t have certain painkillers because of my leukaemia, so the pain’s been tough to handle,” she added.
Ida is now too scared to open her door to strangers. “I just hope the police catch these people. There are a lot of elderly people here, and no one should have to go through what I did.”
Police Hunt for Scooter Thieves
Northumbria Police have launched a full investigation following the attack at Ida’s home on Ross Avenue. Detectives are determined to bring the culprits to justice.
