Police Raise Over £13k in Gritty East Midlands Charity Bike Ride
Forty-five police officers and staff from across the East Midlands powered through a tough 170-mile charity bike ride to support families of fallen colleagues. The three-day marathon wrapped up in Staffordshire on Sunday, raising more than £13,000 for a heartfelt cause.
170 Miles of Grit and Glory
The ride kicked off in Leicester on Friday 28 July, featuring top brass like Chief Constable Kate Meynell. Riders made pit stops at Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire police HQs before pushing on through scorching heat and mixed weather. After grinding through challenging terrain, the group joined a national remembrance service at the Police Memorial in the National Arboretum.
Honouring Hero Ged’s Legacy
The event marked the 20th anniversary of the death of beloved dog handler Ged, killed in the line of duty in 2003. Survivor Tracy Walker rode alongside her children, Rebecca and Matt, as a moving tribute to their dad’s sacrifice.

Organiser Praises Team Spirit
Chief Inspector Paul Lefford, organiser of the East Midlands Chapter ride, said: “This event brings the police family together in a powerful way. I’m proud of everyone, especially the newcomers who took on this endurance ride. It was tough, with mixed weather and conditions, but our support for each other made this year’s ride a huge success.”
