Outdoor Sports and Activities Get Green Light – But Big Gatherings Still Banned
From Monday, officially organised outdoor sports are back on the cards. Tennis, open-air swimming, and other fresh-air activities can reopen. But don’t pop the champagne just yet – large gatherings remain illegal unless specifically exempted. The Met will be cracking down hard on any events that risk spreading Covid-19.
Met Police Ready to Raid Illegal Raves and House Parties
The police warn that large, unlicensed music events or packed house parties won’t be tolerated. These gatherings often happen in cramped venues or derelict buildings, creating a serious public health hazard. Officers will patrol communities and open spaces to keep an eye on things as restrictions ease.
Deputy Assistant Commissioner Jane Connors Speaks Out
“We welcome the limited relaxation of rules on Monday and thank everyone who has played a vital part in making this happen. By staying at home, it has meant the infection rate has dropped, and some freedoms can once again return.
But we must not get complacent. The risk of Covid-19 hasn’t disappeared. Londoners are still catching this deadly disease. Stay vigilant. Keep contacts low, wear face coverings where needed, and avoid large crowds.”
“We will continue to act swiftly against house parties and dangerous raves, issuing fines where necessary. There’s no apology for shutting down large gatherings that threaten public safety.
Across London, expect to see Met officers visible in communities, engaging with the public, and focusing on keeping everyone safe. Tackling violent crime remains the top priority.”
