Outdoor Sports and Swimming Bounce Back as Restrictions Ease
From Monday, people can officially enjoy organised outdoor sports again. That means tennis matches and open-air swimming sessions are back on the menu.
Large Parties Still Outlawed
But don’t think it’s all clear for massive gatherings. Unless you qualify for an exemption, big meet-ups are still illegal. The Met warns these events risk fuelling the virus spread and they’re ready to crack down hard.
Think giant house parties or unlicensed music shindigs crammed into dodgy venues — the police won’t hesitate to shut them down.
Police Ready to Strike Against Risky Gatherings
Deputy Assistant Commissioner Jane Connors, who leads the Met’s Covid-19 response, said:
“We welcome the limited relaxation of rules on Monday and thank everyone who played a vital part in making this happen. Staying home helped bring infection rates down, and now some freedoms are returning.”
“But don’t get complacent. Covid-19 is still out there, infecting Londoners daily. Stay vigilant, limit contact, wear face coverings where needed, and avoid large crowds.”
“We’ll keep responding quickly to house parties and dangerous raves, handing out fines where necessary. We stand firm on shutting down any large gatherings that jeopardise public safety.”
“Met officers will remain highly visible across London, engaging with communities, protecting the public, and focusing on violent crime — our number one priority.”
Met to Maintain a Strong Presence
The police will stay out in force in public spaces as restrictions ease, keeping a keen eye on neighbourhoods to make sure people stick to the rules.
