A body was found in the river near Norfolk Road, Gravesend, on Sunday afternoon, sparking a major police response. Officers rushed to the scene by 11am after concerns for a man’s welfare near Lower Higham Road. At around 2pm, a private ambulance removed the body quietly from the canal’s edge.

Underwater drama unfolds

Witnesses reported seeing two police patrol cars, a Land Rover, and a private ambulance. Intriguingly, someone in diving gear arrived and was later spotted walking back with officers carrying a black bag, hinting at a recovery operation beneath the water’s surface.

Kent Police confirm non-suspicious death

Officers were called following concerns for the welfare of a man near Lower Higham Road, Gravesend at around 11 am on Sunday 15 January 2023. Officers attended along with South East Ambulance Service and a man in his 50s was pronounced deceased. The incident is being treated as non-suspicious and a report will be prepared for the coroner,” said a Kent Police spokesman.

The investigation continues, but police believe no foul play was involved. Locals remain shocked by the grim find near their quiet canal.
