Antisemitic Attacks Soar in UK After Hamas Terror Strike on Israel
The UK has seen a shocking spike in antisemitic incidents following the recent Hamas attack on Israel. The Community Security Trust (CST) recorded at least 320 hate incidents between October 7 and 16—a jaw-dropping 581% increase compared to the same period last year.
Verbal Abuse, Assaults, and Vandalism on the Rise
The disturbing rise includes:
- 15 physical assaults
- 14 cases of property damage and desecration
- 46 direct threats
- 244 abusive acts such as hate mail, graffiti, and verbal insults
- One instance of mass-produced antisemitic propaganda
Online abuse is rampant too, with 86 incidents logged—often involving “pile-ons” where multiple antisemitic posts flood social media platforms.
Targets Include Jewish People, Schools, and Communities
Attackers specifically singled out Jewish individuals, schools, and institutions for their Jewish identity. The hateful rhetoric often mixes pro-Palestinian and anti-Israel views with outright racism and threats.
Geographically, Greater London bears the brunt with 184 incidents, followed by Greater Manchester (35), West Yorkshire (13), West Midlands (8), Nottinghamshire (8), and 72 more scattered across 21 other UK police regions. Universities and schools haven’t escaped either, with 36 incidents at universities and 17 targeting Jewish schools, children, and staff.
Shocking Examples Show Depth of Hostility
CST revealed some vile examples:
- An email praising Hamas sent to a Jewish newspaper editor
- A sticker on a synagogue showing the Prime Minister with the caption “I stand with genocide”
- Offensive chants hurled in the heart of a London Jewish community
CST Urges Public to Report Hate Crimes
CST is urging everyone to report antisemitic behaviour immediately to the police and CST. They stress the need for robust investigations and legal action against hate criminals. The fight against antisemitism requires united action.
