Man in 20s Shot Near Junction 5

The shocking incident happened around 5:20 PM near Junction 5. A man in his 20s, riding a southbound e-bike, suffered life-threatening injuries after an altercation involving occupants of a black BMW. The fleeing vehicle sped off towards the M1 shortly after the shooting.

Emergency services responded swiftly, rushing the injured man to hospital where he remains in critical condition. Authorities closed the A41 in both directions to carry out a full investigation.

Police Hunting Black BMW and Witnesses

Detective Chief Inspector Katie Dounias of the Major Crime Unit urged anyone in the area at the time to come forward. “We need anyone who saw the incident or has dashcam footage, especially relating to the black BMW,” she said.

Arrests Made as Police Tackle Rise in Violence

Watford Chief Inspector Andy Wiseman confirmed arrests in connection with the shooting. He linked this attack to recent targeted violence spikes in the area, now under intense investigation.

Additional police units have been deployed to reassure locals. The A41 remains closed from Woodmere Avenue to Berrygrove roundabout throughout Friday, July 26.

Deputy Mayor Aga Dychton praised police for their rapid response and reassured the public: “This was a targeted incident with no wider threat to the community.”
