Victims of London Bridge Attack Named: Jack Merritt and Saskia Jones
Tragic Loss of Two Cambridge Graduates
Jack Merritt, 25, from Cottenham, Cambridgeshire, and Saskia Jones, 23, from Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, have been confirmed as the two victims who died in Friday’s terror attack near London Bridge. Both were University of Cambridge graduates, deeply involved in the Learning Together programme – Jack as a co-ordinator and Saskia as a volunteer.
Heartfelt Tributes from Families
The family of Jack Merritt said: “Jack Merritt, our beautiful, talented boy, died doing what he loved, surrounded by people he loved. He lit up our lives and we will miss him terribly.
Jack believed in redemption and rehabilitation, not revenge. He always stood up for the underdog. He was intelligent, thoughtful, and empathetic. Jack was excited to build a future with his girlfriend, Leanne, and to build a career helping people in the criminal justice system.
We know Jack would hate for this tragic event to be used by the government to impose harsher sentences or longer prison terms. Our thoughts are with Saskia’s family, injured colleagues, and Cambridge’s criminology team during this tough time.
We ask the media to respect our privacy as we grieve.”
Saskia Jones’ family described her as: “Funny, kind, and a positive force in many lives. She had a mischievous spirit and always wanted to see the best in people.
Saskia lived life to the fullest with a thirst for knowledge. Passionate about supporting victims of criminal injustice, she had recently applied for the police graduate recruitment programme, aiming to specialise in victim support.
This is an unbearably painful time. Saskia leaves a huge void and we ask for privacy.”
Victims and Injuries Update
- One of three injured individuals has returned home after treatment.
