Teen Treated After Blaze Rips Through London Flat
A fire tore through a third-floor, four-room flat in a London residential block, damaging part of the communal roof void. A teenager caught in the chaos was treated at the scene.
Kitchen Blunder Sparks Flames
The blaze reportedly started when paper caught fire during cooking. London Fire Brigade warned, “Fires are more likely to start in the kitchen than any other room in the home.
“It’s critical not to leave cooking unattended, and never leave fabrics, such as tea towels or paper, near a cooker or hob. These items can ignite and spread flames quickly,” said a brigade spokesperson.
“Be cautious of loose clothing too. Avoid leaning over the stove and always roll up sleeves that could dangle near flames.”
Clutter Fuels Fire Spread
Firefighters faced extra challenges due to heavy clutter packed inside the flat. The abundance of flammable items like newspapers and cardboard accelerated the fire’s spread.
Swift Fire Response Quells Blaze
Called at 2.38pm, fire crews had the blaze under control by 3.59pm. Around 25 firefighters from Stoke Newington, Islington, Tottenham, and Bethnal Green stations tackled the inferno with four fire engines.
