In the early hours of the morning, a fatal collision occurred in Roehampton involving a car and a moped, leading to a police investigation. The incident also prompted a referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) due to a failed attempt by the police to stop the vehicle involved.

Officers from the Metropolitan Police have initiated a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision. The incident took place overnight, and tragically, it resulted in loss of life.

The A3 road in the vicinity of the collision has been closed for several hours since the incident unfolded. The closure remains in effect as collision scene investigators continue their work at the site of the tragic accident.
A joint investigation, involving multiple agencies, has been launched to determine the sequence of events leading up to the collision, as well as to establish any contributing factors.

Efforts to gather information and details about the incident are ongoing. We have reached out to the Metropolitan Police for an official statement, and we are also awaiting a response from the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), which will be conducting an independent inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the police’s involvement in the incident.

The closure of the A3 has caused significant disruptions in the area, and local authorities are advising commuters and residents to seek alternative routes and exercise patience while the investigation continues.
Our thoughts go out to the individuals affected by this tragic incident, and we will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.

A Spokesman for the IOPC said:
We have begun an independent investigation into the involvement of the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) prior to a fatal road traffic collision on the A3 near Putney Common, south-west London this morning.
We were notified by the MPS shortly after the collision and IOPC investigators attended the scene and the police post-incident procedure to begin gathering information.

We understand that a Range Rover failed to stop for police and a pursuit began at around 12.30am before the Range Rover was involved in a collision with a motorbike and then overturned.

The motorbike rider was sadly declared dead at the scene. The occupant of the car was not seriously injured.
We declared an independent investigation at 5.49am.
Our thoughts are with the family of the rider who died and all those who have been affected by this incident.
The investigation is at an early stage.
