The IFS Cloud Cable Car, one of London’s most popular attractions, will be temporarily closed for nine days this month to undergo essential annual maintenance works, Transport for London (TfL) has announced.
The service will be suspended from Monday, March 17, until Wednesday, March 26, with the cable car set to reopen to the public on Thursday, March 27.
Vital Maintenance to Tower Assemblies
The maintenance work will be carried out by Doppelmayr, the cable car’s maintainer, and will focus on the replacement and renewal of critical components on the tower assemblies to ensure continued safe and reliable operation.

Trish Ashton, TfL’s Director of Rail and Sponsored Services, said:
“More than ten years after opening, the IFS Cloud Cable Car continues to be a success with Londoners and visitors to the capital.”
“We know that our customers love the unique experience and spectacular views the cable car offers. Our planned annual maintenance ensures that we can continue to run a safe and reliable service for our customers all year round.”
“We apologise for any disruption this causes. However, by carrying out this vital work now, we will minimise the need for any future disruptions this year.”
Alternative Travel Options During Closure
During the closure period, TfL is encouraging passengers to use nearby public transport alternatives:
- North Greenwich Tube station (Jubilee line) – south side of the river
- Royal Victoria DLR station – north side of the river
- Bus services from North Greenwich Bus Station and Royal Victoria
- Thames Clippers river services from North Greenwich Pier, located next to the cable car terminal
- The cable car also connects with the Elizabeth line via Custom House station, a short walk from the Royal Docks terminal
The IFS Cloud Cable Car, which opened in 2012, links Greenwich Peninsula and the Royal Docks, offering stunning aerial views over the River Thames and iconic London landmarks.
