A serving Metropolitan Police officer has been charged with multiple sexual offences involving three men and a woman. Police Sergeant Lee Symons, who was stationed with the West Area Command Unit, was suspended from his duties in December 2022 and will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on January 27, 2025.
PS Symons, 48, was charged on December 23, 2024, with assault by penetration and five counts of sexual assault (by touching). The charges relate to alleged offences that took place between 2012 and 2018, all involving the same man.
In addition, PS Symons faces five further counts of sexual assault by touching, allegedly occurring between 2009 and 2021. Three of these charges relate to offences against a man, while the remaining two concern alleged offences against another man and a woman.
All of the alleged victims are said to have been known to PS Symons at the time of the offences. The charges have sparked widespread concern within the police force and the wider community, given the nature of the accusations against an officer of the law.
The Metropolitan Police said in a statement: “We take all allegations of this nature extremely seriously. The officer has been suspended since December 2022, and we are fully cooperating with the ongoing legal process.”
PS Symons is due to face trial after the charges were formally brought against him in December. The case will be closely followed as it progresses through the courts.
