From 6 January, saying goodbye at Gatwick Airport just got a tenner pricier. The airport is slapping a £10 fee on drivers using the drop-off zone, sparking outrage among travellers who call it a “cash grab” targeting families, taxi drivers, and anyone without a better option.
Passengers Furious Over £10 Drop-Off Fee
Gatwick warns the new charge applies to vehicles using its forecourt drop-off areas. Drivers must pay online, by phone, or via AutoPay. But passengers have hit back, slamming the hike as “outrageous” during tough times.
“£10 to stop for a few minutes is outrageous. It’s another airport tax by the back door.”
Parents dropping off kids, the elderly, and travellers with heavy bags say they can’t rely on free Long Stay car parks – often too far or impractical for quick visits or early flights.
Who’s Off the Hook?
- Blue Badge holders are exempt from the fee.
- Free drop-off is still available at Long Stay car parks, but it’s far from convenient.
Gatwick says the fee will help ease congestion and lower emissions. But many believe it’s just a sneaky money grab in disguise.
Another Blow to Gatwick’s Reputation
With grumbles already swirling over parking costs and passenger treatment, this price hike will only fuel more backlash. For flyers, the growing drop-off fees feel less about fairness and more about draining wallets.
