Driver Caught Out by Super Dark Window Tint on Hastings Road
A Hastings motorist got an unexpected ticking-off after the Road Policing Unit (RPU) spotted his car’s window tint was well below the legal limit. Stopped on Bexhill Road, officers found the front side windows allowed just 32% of light through – far too dark by law.
Fixed Penalty Hit as Tint Fails Legal Test
The driver was slapped with a Fixed Penalty Notice and ordered to remove the illegal tint immediately. According to the rules, cars first used after April 1, 1985, must have front windscreens letting in at least 75% light. Front side windows have to allow a minimum 70%. No such restrictions apply to rear windows.
Why Tint Limits Matter for Road Safety
Excessive tinting isn’t just a legal headache – it can be deadly. Dark windows seriously reduce visibility, making it harder to spot pedestrians and cyclists. This risk spikes during dawn, dusk, or when weather suddenly changes. The RPU warns drivers to stick to legal tint limits for everyone’s safety on the roads.
