Dartford Couples and Guests Fined for Flouting Lockdown Rules
Anniversary Party Crashed by Kent Police
A couple celebrating their anniversary in Dartford found their party cut short when Kent Police arrived and slapped fines on them and three guests. A local woman admitted only two people lived at the property, with the others visiting illegally during lockdown.
Massive Crackdown on Rule-Breakers
These penalties were part of a wider haul of 74 fixed penalty notices issued by Kent Police from Friday 5 to Monday 8 March 2021. Officers caught numerous illegal house parties marking birthdays and anniversaries. More than 30 fines went out across Sutton Valence, Dartford, Gravesend, and Tonbridge for blatantly ignoring Government restrictions.
Birthday Blowout at Canterbury B&B
In Canterbury, a birthday bash at a bed and breakfast was busted. Police found three women and three men partying with banners, balloons, and confetti, all of whom were handed fines.
Public Reports Trigger More Fines
Over in Rochester, locals spotted a large group socialising in a car park. Eight cars worth of partygoers were issued fixed penalty notices. Meanwhile, in Canterbury, a resident repeatedly warned for having visitors finally got fined when caught with a guest indoors.
Assistant Chief Constable Claire Nix said: “So many people in Kent have made huge sacrifices to support the NHS and follow the Government’s guidance. While only a minority break the rules, officers will continue enforcement. Those organising or attending house parties should expect fines.
One small meet-up might seem harmless, but it’s not fair on those making sacrifices. Even small gatherings risk spreading the virus to the wider community.
There’s light at the end of the tunnel. I urge everyone to be patient and wait for lockdown to ease so we can all enjoy freedom with friends and family soon.”
