Police Summer Camp Scores Big in Harrow for Kids Who Can’t Afford Sports

PC Ben Eynon Breaks Down Barriers with Fun-Filled Week

PC Ben Eynon, a youth engagement officer in Harrow, organised a free summer camp from August 23-27 for kids aged 6 to 16. It helped youngsters whose parents couldn’t afford pricey sports courses. The camp offered a full week of activities designed to keep them active and engaged.

Local Charity and School Team Up to Support Community

PC Eynon teamed up with 1 My Yard Harrow, a local food bank, to find the children who needed the camp most. Harrow School kindly opened its facilities for the event. The camp also featured workshops from Met officers, including the Territorial Support Group (TSG) and firearms unit, alongside Army and RAF reps.

From Skeptics to Buddies: Police Win Over Kids

“It was an absolutely amazing week. Some of the older kids weren’t fans of the police at first, but after a few days they were loving the different sports,” said PC Eynon. “One young lad even told us after a day, ‘the police are actually alright,’ and he’s now best mates with a couple of the officers.”

The event was funded by a grant from John Lyon’s Charity School Holiday Activity Fund.

Future Plans: More Camps on the Horizon

Thanks to the success, PC Eynon plans to run the summer camp again next year. The aim remains clear – to build trust and show police as a positive force on local estates.
