City Bans Junk Food Ads on Buses and Taxi Shelters

The city’s Strategy Finance and City Regeneration Committee has cracked down on ads promoting foods loaded with fat, sugar, and salt. From the next bus and taxi shelter ad contract, these junk food ads will face strict limits.

Council Backing and Bright Prospects

Councillor Bella Sankey, leader of 123, backs the move. Similar bans elsewhere have cut unhealthy food promotion without denting advertising revenue. Advertisers have simply got creative with healthier content to stay compliant.

Existing Deals Stay Put

Don’t worry—current ad contracts remain untouched and will run as normal during the new procurement process. The new rules kick in with the next round of advertising deals.
