Atlantic Airmass Brings Mixed Weather Across UK
Met Office Chief Meteorologist Jason Kelly revealed the first Atlantic airmass in a while is pushing into southern and central England, easing the chill there. Meanwhile, the north remains locked in a cold grip. Where these two air masses clash, icy conditions are expected to continue, especially in northeast Scotland with wintry showers and some snow inland.
Yellow Rain Warning Issued for South West
Further south, rain is set to take centre stage. A yellow warning for rain is in place for parts of the South West on Monday. Jason Kelly cautioned that warnings may update, urging folks to keep an eye on the latest forecasts.
Frost and Snow to Linger in North as South Warms Up
Heading into next week, the south will enjoy milder conditions, but the chilly north isn’t giving up yet. Expect widespread frosts and hill snow to persist. By week’s end, snow will likely retreat to higher ground in northern Scotland, with most of the UK seeing average temperatures for the season.
Cold-Health Alerts Issued Across England
The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has issued yellow and amber cold-health alerts for all regions of England, effective until 5 December. These warn of potential health risks as temperatures remain low.
Snow This Early Rare but Likely to Melt Fast
Snowfall in late autumn or early winter rarely sticks around since the ground remains relatively warm compared to deep winter months. So, any snow now is likely fleeting, melting as ground temperatures stay higher than in the colder mid-winter period.
