Human Skull Found in Quiet Lincolnshire Farmland
A human skull has been discovered in a remote farmland area near Louth, sparking shock and mystery among locals.
Lincolnshire Police have set up a forensic tent at the scene, a duck pond by Pear Tree Lane in Fulstow. The area is cordoned off, with officers and investigators combing the site where the remains were found.
Locals Stunned by Grim Discovery
“The police were here at first light,” said a nearby farm resident. “It was about 4 a.m. Someone found a human skull. It’s a big surprise.”
“Everyone is wondering who it could be and how long they’ve been there. It’s heartbreaking — it could be someone’s brother, sister, or parent. It even had teeth, according to the person who found it, but no one knows how long it’s been there.”
Another nearby resident added: “You don’t expect this to happen next door. We’re all intrigued. More investigators arrived this morning and there’s heavy activity now.”
The dry weather may have played a part. “The ditches are usually full of water, but with this heat, they can dry up,” the resident explained.
Police Carry Out DNA Tests, Search for Clues
Investigators will scour the area for any other remains and check local missing persons lists. Pathologists will attempt to match the skull’s DNA with records held by the National Crime Agency.
The field where the skull was found runs alongside the former Grimsby-Louth railway line. Enthusiasts from the Lincolnshire Wolds Railway hope to eventually extend the line north towards Fulstow along this route.
Police Statement on the Investigation
A Lincolnshire Police spokesperson said:
“At around 12.37 p.m. on Thursday, a member of the public reported a bone in the pond. We believe it is a human skull, but a full forensic examination is needed and could take several weeks.”
“The site remains cordoned off. Our officers and forensic teams will be carrying out a thorough search over the weekend and into Monday.”
The investigation continues as police seek to identify the remains and uncover the circumstances behind this unsettling find.
