A30 in Devon Shut After Van Overturns, Two Trapped Inside
The A30 eastbound is completely closed between M5 Junction 29 and Ottery St. Mary after a serious crash involving an overturned van. Two people remain trapped inside the vehicle as emergency teams scramble to the scene.
Major Crash Brings Traffic Chaos
Devon and Cornwall Police, ambulance crews, fire services, and traffic officers were all rushed to the site following the crash shortly after 7am. Firefighters from Middlemoor, Honiton, and Ottery St Mary, including a heavy rescue unit, are tackling the incident.
A fire spokesman said: “Fire appliances from Middlemoor, Honiton, Ottery St Mary and the heavy rescue vehicle attended a multiple vehicle RTC on the A30 this morning. Police and Ambulance also attended. This incident is ongoing.”
Road Closure to Last Several Hours
The A30 remains blocked, leaving drivers facing long delays, especially those heading towards Exeter Airport. Police advise motorists to expect significant hold-ups and to plan alternative routes.
Traffic Diversions in Place
- M5 traffic should continue to Junction 30 and exit to the roundabout.
- Take the 1st exit onto the A376 eastbound.
- At the next roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto the A3052 eastbound.
- Continue to the A3180 junction, turn left, then travel north on the B3180 via West Hill to rejoin the A30.
Police are currently finishing collision investigations and plan to carry out barrier repairs and assess a nearby bridge before reopening the road.
Drivers are urged to allow extra travel time or seek alternate routes to avoid this ongoing nightmare on the A30.
