Plane Crashes Near 700-Year-Old Pub – Couple Trapped 40ft Up in Tree!
Crash Rocks Blue Bell Hill’s Robin Hood Pub
A light aircraft slammed into woods near the historic Robin Hood pub on Blue Bell Hill’s Common Road, just outside Rochester Airport. The 700-year-old watering hole was unaware of the drama unfolding nearby as a plane crash left a couple stranded high in the trees.
Heroic Rescue as Two Trapped 40 Feet in Air
Emergency services were quick on the scene. Kent Police, firefighters, and paramedics dispatched at least 20 vehicles, including seven fire engines, to save the husband and wife who were stuck about 40 feet above ground.
“Our crews are working with emergency services to rescue two people from the aircraft,” ambulance spokesman Rich Airey confirmed.
After a nail-biting rescue operation aided by the HM Coastguard’s winch from Lydd, both passengers were safely brought down around 3.30pm. Miraculously, no injuries were reported.
What Went Wrong? Turbulence Suspected
Police believe the couple may have lost control due to turbulence. A Kent Police spokesperson said: “At 11 a.m., officers responded to a report of a light aircraft collision on Common Road, Chatham. The plane crashed inside a wooded area.”
Investigation Underway, Airport Operations Halted
The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) has launched an inquiry. A spokesman stated: “An accident involving an aircraft was reported near Rochester Airport, and we are in contact with the emergency teams.”
The fire service added their technical rescue unit and all-terrain vehicles were involved. Meanwhile, Rochester Airport is currently closed, with no flights taking off or landing during the rescue mission.
