Southend on alert this Bank Holiday! Police patrols will be out in force across the city to keep revellers safe and crackdown on troublemakers.
Police Warn: Enjoy the Weekend, But Play Safe
Visitors and locals alike are urged to have fun – but without putting themselves or others in danger. Officers will be a visible presence day and night, ready to act on any anti-social behaviour or crimes swiftly and firmly.
Unapproved Gatherings Spark Police Response
Two unofficial gatherings are planned for Easter Monday (10 April), drawing concerns. Southend-on-Sea City Council has prepared by directing motorbikers to park at Eastern Esplanade car park (formerly Gas Works). A separate car cruise might also take place nearby that evening.
Dispersal Order Authorised to Keep Order
In anticipation, a dispersal order covers Eastern Esplanade, Marine Parade, Western Esplanade, Southchurch Avenue, and Victoria Road from 9am Monday until 3am Tuesday. Police can order anyone suspected of anti-social driving or riding to leave the area. Refusal risks arrest.
This pre-emptive measure follows years of incidents involving dangerous behaviour and helps ensure everyone can enjoy Southend without fear or hassle.
Chief Superintendent: No Nonsense on Disorder
“I’ve authorised this dispersal order to make sure people enjoy Southend peacefully on Monday,” said Chief Superintendent Andy Waldie. “Southend attracts bikers and car fans who add great atmosphere, but past events have triggered trouble. We won’t tolerate that again.
“If asked to leave, don’t refuse or you risk arrest. Anyone causing crime, harassment or distress will face the strongest action. Our officers will be out in force to keep you safe, not to spoil your fun. If you have concerns, approach them – they’re here to help.”
