BMW M5 Seventh-Gen Hits Production with Electrified Punch
BMW M GmbH has kicked off production of the much-awaited seventh-generation BMW M5 at its Dingolfing plant. This marks a first: the legendary M5 now rolls off the line with an electrified drivetrain, a game-changer for the high-performance sedan.
Electrified Powerhouse: 727 Horsepower Beast
The all-new BMW M5 roars with the brand’s exclusive M HYBRID system. It mashes a monstrous V8 engine with an electric drive, pumping out a colossal 727 hp. The result? A blistering 0-62 mph dash in just 3.5 seconds. Plus, its high-voltage 18.6 kWh battery gives it an electric-only range of up to 69 kilometres – a unique edge over rivals.
Dingolfing: The Heart of M5 Production
Plant Director Christoph Schröder beamed with pride over Dingolfing’s legacy. The factory’s been the M5’s home since the 1980s, handling everything from early pre-assembled bodies to full production since 1988. This Lower Bavarian site is where the magic happens.
Built with Precision – All Under One Roof
- The bespoke M5 chassis is crafted right at Dingolfing’s component plant 02.10.
- The high-voltage battery assembly is next door at plant 02.20, the E-Drive Competence Centre.
- The lightweight carbon-fibre roof is shipped from Landshut, just 30 km away.
M-Tuned to Perfection
Inside the body shop, the M5 gets a reinforced structure with a wider, flared body housing the specially designed M rear axle. Buyers can pick from 10 standard and a staggering 150 bespoke paint finishes to personalise their ride.
Production Ramps Up – New Models on the Horizon
BMW plans to ramp up production to several dozen M5s daily over the coming weeks. The new M5 hits European roads on November 2, 2024. And that’s just the start – a sleek BMW M5 Touring model is on its way, rounding out the fresh 5 Series lineup and excitement.
