Boy, 11, Plunges 20ft From Abandoned College Roof in Dare Gone Wrong
An 11-year-old boy from Gosport is fighting for his recovery after plummeting 20 feet from the roof of a disused building at St Vincent’s College leisure centre.
Terrifying Fall After Dare
The youngster was reportedly jumping between buildings with friends on the abandoned art block roof just before 8pm when he lost his footing and fell. Eyewitnesses and friends suggest he took the risky leap as part of a dare.
His mum, Emma Louise Clack, shared the shocking news on social media: “My son fell from the roof, he’s in hospital.”
Serious Injuries and Emergency Response
The boy suffered a broken wrist and internal injuries requiring surgery. Emergency crews, including a rapid response paramedic, a land ambulance, and the Hampshire and Isle of Wight air ambulance, rushed to the scene.
The air ambulance touched down on the nearby football pitch on Forton Road to facilitate urgent hospital transfer.
College Launches Full Health and Safety Review
St Vincent’s College principal Matt Atkinson confirmed the college caretaker assisted emergency teams. Speaking on the incident, he said:
“Apparently the boy was climbing the art block roof between 7pm and 8pm when the college was closed. He fell, hurt himself, and managed to get back to St John’s Square where the ambulance was called. We will now carry out a full health and safety review and hope he has a speedy recovery.”
The incident has raised serious concerns about unsupervised access to the abandoned buildings after hours. Local authorities are expected to investigate how the boy managed to access the dangerous site.
