RMT to put Network Rail offer to vote – urges members to reject it
Strikes Locked In for Mid-December
The rail union RMT has announced it will hold an electronic referendum on a new offer from Network Rail. But the union is urging members to reject the deal. The vote closes at noon on Monday, December 12.
Meanwhile, all planned strike days – December 13, 14, 16, and 17 – are set to go ahead without a hitch.
Major Christmas Strike Set to Disrupt Rail Services
Adding fuel to the fire, RMT members have been told not to book on for shifts from 6pm on December 24 through 5.59am on December 27. This strike period falls during the wind-down of passenger services and the start of crucial engineering work.
Interestingly, the union has cancelled all scheduled overtime bans, focusing instead on the large-scale strike action.
Train Companies Still Waiting on Rail Delivery Group
On the front of train operating companies, RMT says there has been no improved offer. The Rail Delivery Group (RDG) remains stuck, awaiting government approval.
As a result, all strike action there will go ahead as planned. The RMT is watching closely ahead of a planned meeting with the RDG tomorrow.
Mick Lynch Slams Employers, Calls for Talks
“It’s unfortunate our union has been forced into this action by the stubbornness of the employers,” RMT General Secretary Mick Lynch said.
“We remain open to talks to resolve these issues but will not cave to pressure from employers or the government at our members’ expense.”
