Blaze at Maidstone Home Sparks Urgent Safety Warning
Kent Fire and Rescue raced to a fire in an outbuilding on Hazel Avenue, Maidstone. Two fire engines tackled the small blaze, which was attached to a domestic property.
Tumble Dryer Fault Blamed for Flames
Firefighters used hose reel jets to smother the fire. Officials say it likely started by accident, caused by a tumble dryer fault. Thankfully, there were no injuries reported.
Fire Service Urges Household Appliance Caution
Following the incident, Kent Fire and Rescue issued vital safety advice for homes:
- Don’t leave dishwashers, tumble dryers, or washing machines running overnight or when out.
- Clear tumble dryer fluff after every use to prevent fire risks.
- Register all household appliances to confirm they’re safe.
- Install at least one working smoke alarm on every floor of your home.
