Company Splashes Cash But Skips Brighton Lease
A Middle Eastern firm has handed an undisclosed sum to Brighton and Hove Council but hasn’t taken the land lease. Instead, they’re planning a bold move for the iconic i360.
i360 Reborn as ‘Burj Belle Tout’
The company wants to relocate the i360 to land near Belle Tout Lighthouse, recently bought from the National Trust. Their pitch? Dismantle the tower and rebuild it as Burj Belle Tout—‘Burj’ meaning ‘Tower’ in Arabic.
As part of the deal, Belle Tout Lighthouse will be moved back from the cliff edge to save the famous landmark once more.
Ambitious Plans Set for 2024
“We hope to dismantle the i360 in November after the British Airways sponsorship ends and complete the move by Summer 2024,” said Mr Kidhbat Abri from the company. “There’s loads of groundwork and National Park guidelines to follow, but we’re optimistic.”
“The attraction will bring vital money and jobs. Plans include refurbishing local car parks and funding public transport year-round between Eastbourne town and the site.”
Construction and Community in Focus
- A nearby farmer’s field will be rented for the build.
- A temporary road will be laid to transport 5,000 tons of concrete, mostly mixed on-site.
- The concrete will be pumped uphill through pipes to minimise traffic chaos.
