Massive Blaze Tears Through Brighton Garage Housing Six Cars
East Sussex firefighters raced to a huge garage fire on Green Ridge, Brighton, today, 12 December 2024. The emergency call came in just before 11:30 a.m., sending four fire engines rushing to the scene.
Fire Escalates, More Crews Join Fight
The flames quickly spread, forcing crews to call in reinforcements. By 12:20 p.m., eight fire engines and an aerial ladder platform were battling the stubborn blaze. The garage, attached to a home, stored six vehicles, complicating the firefighting efforts.
No Injuries but Major Damage
Thankfully, all residents are safe and accounted for, with no reported injuries as of 11:50 a.m. However, the fire has caused serious damage, with the garage roof partially collapsing. Firefighters are using specialist foam and elevated platforms to tackle the flames.
Smoke Clouds Blanket Neighbourhood
Thick smoke is drifting across the area. Locals have been urged to keep windows and doors shut for their own safety. An ESFRS spokesperson said:
“Our crews are working tirelessly to contain the fire and ensure the safety of the surrounding properties. We appreciate the cooperation of local residents in staying clear of the area.”
Battle Continues, Cause Under Investigation
As of 1 p.m., firefighters remain on scene trying to fully extinguish the blaze. Once safe, investigators will step in to find out what sparked the fire.
