UK Trucks Massive EU Insurance Rip-Off – And We’ve Dumped It!
EU’s Vnuk Law Would’ve Forced Insuring Golf Buggies and Lawnmowers
The new Vnuk law aimed to slam insurance requirements on a wild range of vehicles – not just cars and motorbikes. Think golf buggies, mobility scooters, quad bikes – even ride-on lawnmowers on private land!
Under this rule, any vehicle, no matter how niche, would have needed insurance. That means your ride-on mower in the garden could have been on the hook for compulsory cover for the first time.
Brits Saved From £2 Billion Insurance Bill
If Britain had followed these pesky EU rules, the insurance industry would have faced a colossal extra £2 billion in costs. Guess who would have footed the bill? Yep – British drivers, in the form of sky-high premiums.
Now that we’ve left the EU, the UK can chuck this costly law in the bin. Motorists get a welcome reprieve from rising insurance prices – a cracking win for every driver in the country.
Motorsports Industry Saved From Insurance Armageddon
The world-famous UK motorsports scene was staring down a £458 million yearly insurance nightmare. The Vnuk rules would have forced crashes in everything from go-karting to Formula 1 to be treated just like regular road accidents – meaning huge extra insurance costs.
Thankfully, scrapping these rules protects thousands of jobs and preserves Britain’s booming motorsport sector from collapse.
Grant Shapps Cheers UK’s Insurance Break Free
“We have always disagreed with this over-the-top law that would only do one thing – hit the pockets of hard-working people up and down the country with an unnecessary hike in their car insurance. I am delighted to announce that we no longer need to implement it.”
“Scrapping this rule would save the country billions of pounds and is part of a new and prosperous future for the UK outside the EU – a future in which we set our own rules and regulations.”
Why the UK Doesn’t Need Vnuk
Besides the financial pain for Brits, these EU insurance rules are pretty pointless anyway – insurance packages already exist that cover vehicles used on private land. No need to pile on more red tape and cost.
The UK officially left the EU on 31 January 2020, with the transition ending on 31 December 2020. This gave Britain full control over its laws and economic independence – and it took a big step by scrapping the costly Vnuk rules.
