London Tube Driver Sparks Outcry with ‘Free Palestine’ Chant
The British Transport Police (BTP) have launched an urgent probe after a London Underground driver was caught on camera leading passengers in a rousing chant of “free, free Palestine” over the train’s announcement system.
Central Line Carriage Joins Chant
The viral video, uploaded on X (formerly Twitter), shows the Tube driver starting the chant on a packed Central line train. The driver shouts “free, free,” with passengers eagerly responding “Palestine,” a rallying cry often heard at protests. The carriage erupts into cheers as the driver closes with: “Hope you all have a blessed day today and look after yourselves. And keep all those people in your prayers.”
BTP Launches Investigation
Assistant Chief Constable Sean O’Callaghan confirmed the police are working closely with Transport for London (TfL) to get to the bottom of the footage. He said:
“BTP are aware of footage circulating on social media which suggests chants are led by a driver of a train in London earlier. We are working closely with Transport for London and conducting an investigation into the incident.”
Social Media Divided Over Tube Driver’s Actions
The incident has set social media alight, with furious debates over whether the driver’s actions were appropriate. Some praise the gesture as compassionate, others question professionalism on public transport. The BTP investigation aims to establish all facts and decide if conduct rules were breached.
BTP’s Role in Public Safety
The British Transport Police are responsible for passenger safety across UK transport networks. Their remit includes probing any incidents or potential misconduct by transport staff, ensuring the public can travel without worry.
