Massive Fire Tears Through Burnt Oak Terrace

A huge blaze has erupted in Burnt Oak, Barnet, forcing 70 firefighters and ten fire engines into action. Flames engulfed a row of terraced houses on Silkstream Road, with the roof and part of the first floor of a mid-terraced home ablaze.

Fire Rips Through Multiple Roofs

The London Fire Brigade (LFB) was alerted at 4:04pm after receiving 36 emergency calls. Thick smoke billowed across the area as crews from Hendon, West Hampstead, Mill Hill, and nearby stations battled the inferno. The fire has also damaged the roofs of three neighbouring properties.

Residents Evacuated Amid Thick Smoke

Dozens of locals were forced to evacuate, leaving behind years of memories. Windows and doors are being kept shut to avoid smoke inhalation. Pensioner Deirdre Hackett, 75, described the chaos as she fled with her husband.

“Our neighbour was banging on our door for us to get out. It went up so quickly. We were in a panic. My grandchildren’s school uniforms are in there and 50 years of memories and keepsakes,” she said. “We don’t know how much damage there is. We will probably sit in the park for the night. We’ve got two chairs – we’ll sit here for the night.”

Another local posted on Facebook: “Sad to say that the roofs are collapsing like stacks of dominoes. Shocking.”

Fire Brigade Battles Fire for Hours

Firefighters expect to remain on site for several hours. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported. The cause of the fire remains unknown. Nearby St Alphage Church Hall confirmed it was spared but warned the situation is “very close,” with flames lapping the park next door.

Photos show roofs collapsed and charred timbers as crews work tirelessly to douse hotspots. Residents are urged to stay clear while the emergency continues.
