Two helicopters will roar back into action from Manston Airport tomorrow, signalling a striking comeback for the site in the Coastguard search and rescue (SAR) game.
Manston Makes Triumphant Return After Cost Clash
Since 2015, HM Coastguard’s choppers, run by Bristow, were grounded at Lydd Airport. But a bitter fallout over costs forced crews to relocate to Hampshire temporarily. Now, the service confirms a permanent move back to Manston – and it’s here to stay.
Top-Class Facilities and Prime Spot
The Bristow Group’s AW139 helicopters will use Manston for crew swaps, refuelling, and full rescue ops. A spokesperson gushed:
“We appreciate the airport’s cooperation and support in enabling these arrangements. Manston Airport, which has previous SAR credentials, offers facilities that meet all safety and operational needs. Its prime South East location allows us to provide uninterrupted, effective rescue service alongside other Coastguard teams.”
Airport Owner Rolls Out Red Carpet
Riveroak Strategic Partners (RSP), the owners of Manston, welcomed the rescue teams with open arms:
“RSP Manston is delighted to welcome the Bristow Search and Rescue team. We will ensure their move is as smooth and seamless as possible.”
